Weeber Tank Rehabilitation Project

Weeber Tank Rehabilitation Project
Norfolk, Massachusetts

Overview

Recent inspections of the one-million gallon Weeber Tank concluded that the interior and exterior coatings need to be reapplied in addition to other miscellaneous repairs. Environmental Partners was retained by the Town of Norfolk to provide engineering design, bidding, and construction phase services for rehabilitation of the Weeber Tank. The tank was originally constructed in 1985 and has a diameter of 50 feet and a height of 81.5 feet.

Approach

Environmental Partners prepared publicly bid construction documents, and provided bidding and construction management services for the project. Due to the location of the site within a residential neighborhood, shrouding of the entire work site during exterior sandblasting operations was recommended. The work performed consisted of recoating the tank interior and exterior, shrouding the exterior, filling and welding of metal surface pits, repair and replacement of loose grout along the base ring wall, and air quality monitoring.

Solution

The project’s construction activities were completed in the Spring of 2008. Environmental Partners provided on-site resident inspection and kept the project on schedule and within budget. The project work was coordinated with Town operations to minimize disruptions to the water system.
