Haines Square Rehabilitation

To improve pedestrian safety in the heart of their downtown, EP is working with the City of Medford to redesign Haines Square through the MassDOT Complete Streets funding program.

Taking place along Spring Street and Salem Street, this project involves the reconstruction of sidewalks and curb ramps to achieve ADA compliance, the installation of curb extensions and a median island to reduce pedestrian crossing distances, and construction of new sidewalk to eliminate gaps in the existing sidewalk network. This project also provides safer channelization for vehicular and bicycle traffic by reducing excess pavement within the intersection and travel lanes and more clearly defining areas of on-street parking.

To elevate the aesthetics of the area, other improvements include street lighting, landscaping, and streetscape features. Construction is currently underway and anticipated to be completed in the Spring.
