Old Randolph/Thicket Intersection Improvements

To address safety deficiencies for pedestrians and motorists, EP assisted the Town of Abington in soliciting a Shared Streets grant and designed safety improvements at the intersection of Old Randolph Street at Thicket Street.

The project addressed a well-known and dangerous issue of drivers traveling the wrong way on the one-way eastbound Old Randolph Street. Improvements included realigning and tightening the intersection, eliminating excess pavement, guiding motorists around an unanticipated bend in the road and creating a more traditional T-intersection. They will also provide a safer pedestrian crossing with shorter, more visible accommodations and installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB).

This is the first project EP performed a drone survey to create an existing condition base plan for the design. With construction wrapping up, EP and the Town are proud of the increase in safety the improvements bring.
