Many Towns have aging public water supply wells, that can no longer pump at their MassDEP approved pumping rate. EP is working with a Town to restore lost capacity to one of its public water supply wells. Under current MassDEP regulations, for public water supply protection the Town must own and control the 400-foot Zone I radius around the well. As is frequently the case with older water supply wells, the Town does not own the 400-foot area. EP worked closely with the Town and MassDEP to convert the single well to a wellfield, which only requires a 250-foot Zone I radius.
The wellfield is more compliant and MassDEP can approve the replacement wellfield. EP completed exploration and preliminary testing for the wellfield, which can restore production to original capacity.
