Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program

Environmental Partners is proud that much of our work aims to help communities become safer and more accessible for all. Currently, EP’s transportation group is assisting several municipalities with the MassDOT Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program. To date, the communities of Hanson, Gloucester, Westwood, and Whitman have all been awarded funds to implement interventions that calm vehicular traffic and provide safer conditions for all users.

EP’s breadth of support for these municipalities has included identifying project locations, developing conceptual designs, leading the grant application effort, completing final design plans, obtaining necessary local permits, and providing construction administration services. Proposed treatments include reconstructing ADA-compliant pedestrian curb ramps and sidewalks, installing pedestrian-activated warning devices including Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), tightening intersection corners, and constructing curb extensions to shorten pedestrian crossings and improve sight distance.
